10th Anniversary of the National Apology for Forced Adoptions 21 March 2013
16 March 2023

Tuesday 21 March marks the 10th anniversary of the National Apology for Forced Adoptions.

The National Apology acknowledged the lifelong pain and suffering associated with forced adoption practices and committed to supporting all those affected to get the help they need.

Those affected by these experiences have not been forgotten. The 10th Anniversary will be a date of national significance for a large number of people. To mark this important milestone, our Government will host commemorative activities in Canberra on 21 and 22 March 2023.

The planned program of events to commemorate the 10th Anniversary consists of:

A commemorative dinner to be held on 21 March 2023, and
A statement on significant matters in the House of Representatives on the morning of 22 March 2023.

The commemoration will bring together people directly affected, along with those who tirelessly worked, and continue to work, as supporters of the forced adoptions community.

It will also aim to bring national attention to the truth of the mothers, children and fathers who today still live with the consequences of this trauma.

The Forced Adoption Support Service national helpline can be contacted on 1800 21 03 13.
